We visited Merchants Restaurant in the Lace Market Hotel on the Saturday before Valentines Day as an early Valentines dinner. Therefore like my previous post this is quite late so I apologise for any differences.
Early in February 7 of us went to The Star Inn The City for a celebratory lunch after my brother’s civil wedding ceremony at the York Registry Office. When we arrived we were told our table was being prepared but it was ready quite quickly. Apologies if things in my post are slightly different as I’m writing this more than 3 weeks later!
Yesterday evening we went to Sinatra’s as a second celebration of Keith’s birthday with his mum, stepdad and brother. We’d not been to Sinatra’s for years since the first time we’d been to celebrate our anniversary in October 2013. That makes it at least 3 years since!
Its been about 8 months since our last visit to ZAAP! We decided to visit on Keith’s birthday as an impromptu visit. Upon entry it still looks as busy as ever even though it was a weekday evening. We were seated quite promptly in one of the rickshaw tables.
In the interests of trying out more places close to where we live we thought we’d try The Trent Lock today. Its a pub thats located at Trent Lock, a major waterway junction where canals and rivers meet. Its run by Vintage Inns who run many pubs across the UK.
The Bear and Lace was opened in 2015 in the site of the previous Chambers Pub on Maid Marian Way. It was touted as a high end Champagne bar. I’d not personally heard about it until last year when a colleague said she was holding her engagement party there. I then booked it for the department office Christmas party on Friday the 16th of December 2016. I’ve also had my leaving do there yesterday evening (Friday the 6th of January 2017). As I have 2 separate events there I shall write this in 2 sections.
We visited Rye with some friends for breakfast on the Sunday the 4th of December 2016. Its a cafe I’d heard a lot about on Facebook courtesy of some Beeston groups I follow. As our friends live in Beeston we thought we’d try it!
On Saturday the 26th of November 2016 I went to one of the newer restaurants the Lace Market has to offer, Griddle and Shake which opened early in November. The restaurant is owned by Michelin trained chef, Ed Halls. On this occasion my husband and I went with our friend who was back in Nottingham for a quick visit. I’d been recommended this restaurant by a work colleague who really enjoyed her experience. Our experience wasn’t the best but its been over a month since we’d been so hopefully its improved since then.
As we’d only moved to Long Eaton in September we’re still struggling to wean ourselves off dining in the Nottingham city centre. However, as my husband knows quite a few people in Long Eaton we’re not short of recommendations! The Marina Cafe was recommended to us by my husband’s boss. Its situated at the Sawley Marina in Long Eaton.
The Black Boy is a gastropub located in Headington, Oxford. From the outside it looks like a mere pub but upon entry you’re greeted with a rather modern looking interior. There is also a garden out back but we didn’t get the chance to have a look round. My brother-in-law suggested it as some of us wanted a Sunday roast.
