Wheal Honey, Cornwall

On our family holiday to Cornwall we booked a self-catered cottage. We were looking for somewhere that was kid friendly and self-catered and ticked many many boxes such as Sky, wifi, washing machine, etc. I found the cottage that ticked all these boxes and more on Sykes Cottages. Wheal Honey!

Its situated in St Newlyn East near Newquay, Cornwall. Its one of 4 cottages that are a converted barn on what used to be a dairy farm. We stayed in the one that has 2 bedrooms and sleeps 4 people, Wheal Honey.

In the entry hall there is a coat rack, vacuum cleaner, ironing board, clothes horse and an understairs WC.

You then walk into the downstairs living area which comprises of the living room, dining area and kitchen.

The kitchen is well stocked with under counter fridge, stove and oven, washing machine, dryer and dish washer. You also have pots and pans and cutlery and anything you’d need to cook and clean. Everything you could need from dishwasher tablets, detergent, tea bags, coffee. The hosts Ann and Howard also provided a pint of milk and a bottle of red wine which I thought was a very nice touch. It allowed us to have a cup of tea fresh from driving more than 5 hours!

The dining area has a bookshelf that has a variety of books, DVDs and guides. There is even a pair of binoculars!

The living area has some very comfortable sofas, a TV with a Sky box and DVD player. There is also a very helpful binder that provides details about the cottage, surrounding areas, emergency contact numbers, etc.

When you go upstairs there are 2 bedrooms. One with 2 single beds (front of the cottage) and one with a double bed (back of the cottage). Each room has space for you to hang up your clothes. The bathroom is also up there with plenty of towels in the airing cupboard (and on the beds on arrival).

My only complaint would be that the double bed is quite creaky so trying not to disturb a sleeping baby when getting in and out of the bed was a challenge!

All in all the cottage was very comfortable and very nicely furnished. We could even picture ourselves living there! Ann and Howard were very accommodating. Howard came to greet us shortly after we’d settled in and if we needed something he was happy to help us procure it. Even our really random request for super glue!

If you’re looking for a cottage to stay in, I highly recommend Wheal Honey!

Baby facilities:
One of the things that made me choose Wheal Honey is the fact that it was very baby friendly. I was able to request a cot, highchair and stairgate before we arrived and found them all set up upon arrival! There were even blankets and a baby bath!
