Ibis Hong Kong Central & Sheung Wan, Hong Kong

We chose Ibis Hong Kong Central & Sheung Wan for our 3 night stay in Hong Kong (May 2017) as it was quite central (as its name says!). We also went for Ibis as you generally know what to expect and they were one of the more affordable places to stay in Hong Kong.

From the Hong Kong airport you can catch the Airport Express to Hong Kong Station where you can catch the free shuttle bus that runs every 20 minutes (I believe its route H2 – 3rd stop). You can read more about the Airport Express in my next post (Sim Cards and Travel Cards, Hong Kong). The bus stop for the hotel is directly outside the building. They have a Starbucks attached so don’t be too confused!

Upon arrival you have to take the elevator to the 5th floor for reception. You’re then greeted by several smiling faces who will happily assist you with your check in process. On check in you’re handed a welcome pack as well as your key cards.

The pack consisted of information about the shuttle bus, coupons, Old Town Central and the hotel! It was very useful to have and although we didn’t really make use of any of this it was a very nice touch!

We were given a room on the 28th floor which made for a fantastic view from our harbor view room.

Every day you’re also given a free bottle of water as Hong Kong can get really warm. Thought that was a brilliant touch. This Ibis was definitely in a much better condition when compared to the Singapore one we stayed in. Thought the added security feature of requiring your key card to get to the room floors was great too!

It was an interesting experience to watch the black alert thunderstorm that rolled into Hong Kong on our 3rd day there from the 28th floor! If you’re wondering what a black alert is, its when you get a lot of rain for several hours. The whole island shuts down and everyone is told not to travel or use public transport.

We also made use of the laundry services which was brilliant. As long as you call up before 9.30am and hand it over to them you’ll actually get everything back later that evening all clean and pressed.

My only niggle would be that on the one day we asked for the room to be cleaned our “new” sheets seem to be stained which was a bit worrying. Thankfully it was at the bottom corner of the bed so we were able to ignore it.

There seems to always be someone on duty as well which is great. We were able to check out at 4am on our last day quite quickly and smoothly. One of the door staff helped us to hail a taxi to Hong Kong station which wasn’t easy at that time of the morning! (the shuttle doesn’t run that early so we had to get a taxi in order to make the Express in time!).

Its within easy walking distance of the trams, MTR (8 minutes), shops and restaurants, several 7 Elevens, many money changers (we used Ngau Kee Money Changer which offered the best rates for GBP to HKD). Its also within 5 minutes of the Macau Ferry Terminal. It also offers free WiFi which is pretty decent.

Would definitely recommend Ibis Hong Kong Central & Sheung Wan for anyone who’s looking for a hotel in a decent location for a decent price.
