On Day 1 of our trip to Singapore we visited Gardens by the Bay. Our interest was piqued upon seeing them on David Attenborough’s programme Wild City.
Gardens by the Bay is a nature park that is adjacent to the Marina Reservoir. Its on hectares of reclaimed land and is quite a remarkable attraction. There are lakes, gardens, conservatories, sculptures, etc. all dotted about this large area.
Its quite easy to get to via MRT. We got off at Bayfront MRT station and used Exit B to the underground tunnel.
From memory we paid SGD 12 each for entrance to the Cloud Forest Conservatory. I believe its SGD 28 to if you also wanted to enter the Flower Dome Conservatory which was unfortunately closed when we visited. Its free entry to the outdoor gardens if you didn’t want to go into the conservatories. There was also a little unlimited shuttle service you could use for SGD 3 each as well as the outdoor garden audio tour which costs SGD 8 each. Interestingly they have something called Auto Rider which is a self driving little capsule vehicle that takes you on the tour of the gardens for SGD 5 each.
We wandered about the gardens on foot looking at the beautiful plants and sculptures on our way to the Cloud Forest Conservatory.
Upon entry to the Cloud Forest Conservatory we’re hit by this amazing drop in temperature (temperatures are kept between 23 and 25 Celsius) . The conservatory is basically to showcase mountain/highland plant life. There’s a massive waterfall and lush greenery everywhere. There’s also lots of sculptures scattered about including carnivorous plants surrounded by what look like lego versions.
You get to climb several feet up as there are several levels that have different offerings at each level. Its definitely one to visit especially if you need some respite from the heat of Singapore.
We then paid SDG 8 each to go up the OCBC Skyway. Tickets for this were purchased at a ticket office at the base of this. You basically get to walk along a 128m walkway that connects the Supertree Grove which gives you a great view of Singapore.
The Gardens is definitely one to visit for a bit of greenery in the very built up Singapore. As mentioned before the Cloud Dome is also brilliant for getting some respite from the heat. Would definitely like to see it at night as the Supertrees light up but that will be for another visit.
