We visited Singapore for 3 days and 2 nights at the start of May. Out of all the hotels I’d viewed we found that Ibis On Bencoolen seemed the cheapest and most value for money.
I booked it via Tripadvisor.
A lot of reviews on Tripadvisor stated that you could actually check in early if the hotel wasn’t really full on the day you arrive. As our flight landed in Singapore at just before 9am I’d emailed the hotel beforehand asking if we’d be allowed an early check in. Sad to say that I received no response whatsoever to my enquiry. Not a great start customer-service-wise…
When we arrived our room wasn’t ready yet but we were allowed to at least check in and leave our bags in their little luggage room behind reception. We were given a little coat check type of ticket for our bags which made collecting our luggage after quite easy.
When we returned after 2pm (check in is from 2pm) we were able to quickly collect our room key and bags and head up to our room. I was quite surprised by the state of the room. It was incredibly basic with a struggling air conditioning system. Considering the price we paid per night I was left a little disappointed. The air conditioning required leaving on for several hours before the room was sufficiently cool enough to be comfortable in the muggy and hot temperatures of Singapore.
Aside from that the room served its purpose as a place to put your head down each night. Customer service was decent enough aside from the hiccup pre-trip.
The hotel is conveniently located near 2 MRT stations and there’s a shopping centre called Bugis Junction nearby where there’s a food court and shops. There’s also a 7 Eleven (convenience store) just around the corner from the hotel where you can grab any necessities you require like drinks, ciggs, snacks and even sim cards (more on that in a separate Services post).
All in all it was a decent enough hotel but I’m not sure I’d return as for a little bit more money we could probably find a nicer place to stay.
