Early in February 7 of us went to The Star Inn The City for a celebratory lunch after my brother’s civil wedding ceremony at the York Registry Office. When we arrived we were told our table was being prepared but it was ready quite quickly. Apologies if things in my post are slightly different as I’m writing this more than 3 weeks later!
Upon entering you’re greeted by quite an interesting mix of decor. The ambience was very relaxed and quiet as expected of a Wednesday afternoon. It was however quite busy inside.
Our table was situated in the corner by the very large windows so we were able to have a lovely view of both the park and the river. I imagine that in the summer its brilliant to sit in the restaurant. They also have an outdoor seating area which would be nice.
The waiter came over with a bottle of Prosecco that we’d ordered and even offered his congratulations to the bride and groom! Orders were promptly placed and all questions and recommendations were answered well so hats off to our waiter.
Deep-fried Breaded Calamari
Scottish Salmon ‘cured & chopped’
Ceps In The City (Mushrooms)
8oz Yorkshire Cheeseburger
10oz Marbled Rib-Eye
Pan Roast Breast of Leven Farm, Beverley Reared Duck
Ale-braised Rare Breed Beef
Banoffee Upside Down Cheesecake
Raspberry & Lemon Balm Brûlée
Whisky & Dark Chocolate Pot
All the food was brilliant. Everyone really enjoyed their dishes which were served piping hot and beautifully arranged. The staff were also friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. The total bill plus tip came to around £300 which meant it was about £40ish per person which is not bad considering that includes 3 courses each, prosecco and a few soft drinks.
As a happy surprise they even brought out a little congratulatory dish for my brother and his new wife which was a lovely addition to the meal.
If we’re ever in York again we would visit this lovely restaurant again especially for any special occasions.
