We went to the Royal Yacht Britannia straight from our hotel as we were staying at the Leith Waterfront Premier Inn. The yacht is at Ocean Terminal in Leith. The Hop On Hop Off Majestic Tour stops right out front of it.
Ocean Terminal is basically a large shopping centre. The entrance to the yacht is on the 2nd floor of the shopping centre. If you bought the Royal Edinburgh ticket as mentioned in my Hop On Hop Off post then admission will be free. If not, the prices are as follows:
Adult – £15.00
Senior – £13.50
Child (>5) – £8.50
Child (<5) – Free
Family – £43.50
Student – £13.50
HM Armed Forces – £8.50
Assoc Royal Yacht – Free
The admission fee includes an audio headset guide which you will need throughout your visit.
The yacht was the Royal Yacht of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. You get a tour of how the ship was run, how the royal family lived while on the ship and all about the history of it. Its all really interesting! About close to the end of the tour you also see a little fudge shop where someone actually makes fudge onboard! You get to taste some and buy it if you want. Otherwise you can also buy it in the gift shop at the end. As a fun aside, keep an eye out for the little stuffed toy Corgis that are dotted about the yacht! If you have children with you they could potentially win a prize at the end!
Would definitely recommend visiting this attraction as another part of royal history in Scotland.
