Palace of Holyroodhouse, Edinburgh

We visited Palace of Holyroodhouse after we’d been to Edinburgh Castle. Its on the other end of the Royal Mile from the castle so its a pretty easy walk downhill to get to. You also walk past the Scottish Parliament on your way so you’ll know you’re on the right track if you see that!

This attraction is Her Majesty The Queen’s official residence in Scotland. It has an amazing history of Scottish royalty. You won’t be allowed to take photographs inside the building so bear that in mind!

The admission prices for standard admission are:

Adult                                      £12.00
Over 60/Student                 £11.00
Under 17/Disabled             £7.20
Family                                    £31.20
Under 5                                  Free

They do offer a combined visit tickets for admission to the palace as well as The Queen’s Gallery.

As we’d had the admission included in our Royal Edinburgh Hop On Hop Off tickets we just walked right in! Your ticket also includes a complimentary audio tour which lasts approximately 1 hour.

You get to walk through the palace and see the apartments, tapestries, furniture, etc. The audio tour tells you about each room as well as you walk through. You’ll just need to press the corresponding number on little signs scattered through out the accessible areas.

You also get to walk through the ruins of the abbey that are on the grounds which is quite cool!

Would definitely visit this attraction as part of your visit to Edinburgh as its quite an interesting part of the history of the city.
